Dr Kgosientsho David “Sputla” Ramokgopa was born on 25 January 1975 in Atteridgeville, Pretoria, South Africa. He grew up influenced by his community and the values of self-help and service instilled by the Good Citizenship programme under Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s leadership. Dr Ramokgopa pursued his education with a passion for civil engineering, earning his BSc from the University of Durban Westville in 1998.

He continued his academic journey, achieving a Master of Public Administration from the University of Pretoria, a Master of Business Leadership from the University of South Africa, and eventually, a PhD in Public Affairs from the University of Pretoria.

Political and Professional Career

Dr Ramokgopa’s career in public service and infrastructure development has been extensive and impactful. He served as the Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane from 2010 to 2016, where he implemented policies aimed at fostering economic growth and improving municipal services. His leadership extended to the role of Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Agriculture and Environment, where he continued to drive initiatives supporting sustainable development.

Recognized for his expertise in infrastructure and investment, Dr Ramokgopa was appointed Head of the Investment and Infrastructure office in the Office of the President of the Republic of South Africa, and concurrently served as Head of Infrastructure South Africa.
