The special day was established following India’s Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi’s, proposal for an International Day of Yoga at the United Nations General Assembly on 27th of November 2014, on the 11th of December 2014 United Nations passed a resolution making the 21st of June International Yoga Day.
“In today’s fast paced, high stress life there has never before been a stronger need for the practise of Yoga. It embodies a holistic approach to health and well-being and to live a life in harmony with nature and the world around us. As Zee we are proud to be in association with this endeavour to empower South Africans to live a healthier lifestyle through the practice of Yoga,” said Zee Africas CEO Harish Goyal.
Part of Zee’s involvement includes a Yoga awareness campaign which will run on air and across the channel’s social media and website.
In order to create awareness of their channels Zee’s channels; Zee World and Zee TV have both got actively involved with initiatives in order to generate brand awareness and essentially link the Zee brand as a whole to healthy living, wellness and yoga.
Zee Africa has associated itself with 18 events across various regions of South Africa. All events being organised in South Africa are free and open to all. Leading South African personalities and institutions including Premier of KZN, Ahmed Kathrada (struggle hero), Mac Maharaj (Struggle hero) Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, Ela Gandhi (grand-daughter of Mahatma Gandhi), Jonty Rhodes(Cricketer) among others have endorsed this event with a call to all to come forward in support of healthy living and wellness.
“Our partnership with the Indian High Commissioner in South Africa and the Consulate General of India in Durban for the International Yoga Day includes a yoga festival at SummerPlace in Johannesburg and celebration workshop at the Amphitheatre at the Durban Beach Front. This event will host yoga enthusiasts and children from underprivileged areas,” concluded Goyal.
