According to young South African’s, uShaka Marine World is one of the three most cool places to visit!
Respondents in the Sunday Times Generation Next youth survey rated Africa’s largest marine theme park the third most popular local entertainment destination to visit during the past year.
Headed by youth marketers MTV and Proudly SA, the Sunday Times Generation Next youth survey was created 12 years ago as a platform for media and advertisers to converse with youth and bridge the age gap.
And bridging that gap is just what the uShaka marketing team has worked hard to achieve.
“It’s well and good to have an offering that appeals to every generation – from uShaka Kids World to Sea World to the thrilling water slides of Wet ‘n Wild and the creepy critters of Dangerous Creatures, but it is another to convince and build a relationship with a youth market that is spoilt for choice when it comes to entertainment,” says Stella Khumalo, CEO uShaka Marine World.
She says that a number of elements have contributed including offering value add combo deals, launching online ticketing, creating fun youth events and parties as well as engaging with this audience over social media.

During May 2016, uShaka’s Facebook page had a total of 194 161 likes, of which 2 764 were new ones. It reaches nearly 2,2 million people with up to 12 500 engagements per day and boasts 132 608 engaged users.
The total number of Twitter followers has climbed to 10 491 with audience growth of 310 people, a total audience reach of 2 689 224 people and a daily reach of 869 132 people. uShaka has also built a base of over 10 000 followers on Instagram.
Between May 2015 and May 2016, visits to uShaka’s website grew by 50 percent. The number of unique users is up by 17 percent and Facebook traffic is up by an amazing 137 percent.
The total digital reach per day across all channels is 218 167 people, 34 of these are aged between 25 and 34 years old and 29 percent are between 18 and 24 years old.
CEO Stella Khumalo said that, most exciting of all, was that the Theme Parks of the World Page Ranking which assesses fan growth, interaction and engagement, places uShaka ninth in the world on its Page Performance Index and seventh when it comes to engagement.
