The University of Pretoria closed two of its campuses this morning, following protests by students. The management took this decision to ensure safety of the students at the institution.
According to Professor Gloudien Spies, this protest will not affect the Bestmed TuksRace taking place on Saturday, 20 February 2016. “It is unfortunate that this situation unfolded just a day before the race, but we can assure the community that safety measures are in place, and the event will take place as planned. We look forward to an even better race this year, and we hope to see running enthusiasts, fun runners and walkers in their numbers at the largest annual road-running race in Gauteng,” says Professor Spies.
The event, which will start at the High Performance Centre entrance and finish at the rugby/soccer field adjacent to the athletics stadium, comprises 21.1km, 10km, 5km, and 1 km open race, as well as a wheelchair race.
