Polokwane Municipality is developing a park opposite Tom Naude high school in order to offer residents better recreational experience. There are a number of recreational activities that we are introducing into the park like beach soccer and volleyball, which will benefit the community of Polokwane at large.
Recreational facilities of this nature benefit communities in the sense that they help bring together the youth thus taking them away from unwanted activities like crime.
The existing park situated at corner De Meer and Potgieter Street is also going to be upgraded into a children’s park.
Sporting activities at the park are not going to be of a magnitude similar to the ordinary soccer activities as they will mostly be for fitness and exercising purposes. There will also be set operating hours so that activities do not cause nuisance to school and church activities around that area.
Naming of the park is and remains competence of the Naming Committee and the project will be completed by December 2014 at a budget of R800 000.
Development of this park is also the municipality’s efforts in dealing with criminal activities in and around the city.
