NWU graduate crowned Female Entrepreneur of the year
NWU Mafikeng Campus LLB graduate, Nthabiseng Kgobokoe, was recently crowned the female entrepreneur of the year at the annual awards ceremony of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF). She received the award in the category “Best subsistence farming”.
A graduate of law and sports science, Nthabiseng, specializes in mixed farming and has been running the Batswana Farmers since 2010. She says she chose farming because it is fulfilling and rewarding knowing that she actively contributes to food production.
In a bid to increase their outreach programme the Mafikeng Campus partnered with Nthabiseng’s Batswana Farmers in educating villagers about animal inoculation and opportunities in the sector for those interested in the field of agriculture.
Apart from walking away with the much coveted award for her hard work and dedication, she also took home R275 000 in prize money. In addition she also received R30 000 worth of fertiliser and a prestigious study tour to Kenya.
‘I will use it wisely and invest it back in the farm. Things are expensive in this sector and this money will go a long way in growing the business and increasing my production. I hope to employ more people because I am running programmes that help set up start-up agricultural businesses and I believe I can contribute to job creation’, said Nthabiseng.
