NWU Academic Receives South African Chemical Institute Award

NWU-Mafikeng, academic and Acting Executive Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural, Science and Technology Professor Helen Drummond has recently received a Chemical Education medal of the South African Chemical Institute(SACI).SACI is a body promoting chemistry, chemist, the chemical industry, and chemical education in South Africa.

The award is made to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to Chemical Education as judged by the person’s published work in the previous 5 years. Published work may be in any form and may be related to any level or Education context.

The medal comprises of a Silver medal and a suitable inscribed scroll, the medal bears the Institute and crest on the obverse and the name of the recipient and the date on the reverse.

When asked about this achievement professor Drummond had this to say:

“It’s a very prestigious National award; it means a lot to have been awarded this medal. As i have always wanted to have it in my life. This is a sign that i am doing a good job in the field of Chemical Education” said Professor Drummond.

Professor Helen Drummond is the second Academic from this campus to receive this award after Professor Mailoo Selvaratnam who received it in 1995.
