Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) mourns the death of Mrs Dudu Mchunu, the wife of former MUT Chancellor Mr Willies Mchunu (2010 – 2014), who is also the Kwazulu-Natal MEC for Transport‚ Community Safety and Liaison. Mrs Mchunu passed away on Saturday, 23 April 2016, at Durban’s Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital after a long illness.
Acting MUT Vice-Chancellor & Principal, Professor Marcus Ramogale said: “The passing away of Mrs Dudu Mchunu is sad news indeed. We extend our condolences to his family and friends, as we pray for them to find the grace and strength to bear the pain of the loss. May her soul rest in peace.”
Mr Mdumiseni Ntuli, KwaZulu-Natal ANC spokesperson, said that this wasn’t only a loss to the Mchunu family, but to the people of the province and the ANC. “Mama Mchunu was an important pillar that kept moving forward. She understood that she was part of a bigger family rather than the Macingwane family, a family that included the ANC. We are deeply saddened by her departure,” said Mr Ntuli.
These sentiments sum up the mood within the University community after hearing about the loss of Mama Mchunu. The Chair of the University Council and various levels of management and staff have also sent their condolences to the family.
