Picture this, guests feast on a scrumptious meal around a long decked-out table on a summer night as conversations flow and laughter fills the air. Festivities then move to a beautifully lit garden where they dance the night away to live entertainment with a roaring bonfire in the background. This is what you can expect at the next Mokete social dining experience on Saturday, 27 January 2018, at Takenaki Lapa in the north of Pretoria, just five minutes away from Wonderboom Airport.
Mokete was founded by brother and sister duo, Tebogo and Refilwe Mphane, in May 2016 and takes place on a bi-monthly basis. For each event, the culinary team prepares a three-course meal embracing traditional and contemporary African cuisine, with a hint of flavours from other parts of the world.
“We gather around a long table to not only enjoy a meal, but to talk, share and connect. We have themed this upcoming Mokete, “The Dinner Table Edition”, to highlight that there’s no better way to connect with others than in the sharing food at the table. You are bound to ask a stranger to pass the salt, which is enough to break the ice and spark a new acquaintance,” says event organiser, Tebogo Mphane.
In line with the ambiance at an actual “Mokete” (celebrations in rural communities and townships where everyone is invited to feast, sing and dance) organisers create a warm, festive and inclusive environment, making it easy for guests to relax and mingle. Their love for Africa is also apparent in the décor and music selection – which is inspired by the continent’s rich and diverse cultures.
