CIPS SA Trust Awards Bursaries at Rising Starts Career Expo

By in Education, Research, Policy on July 7, 2016

Following recent calls for private & public organisations and individuals to contribute in making tertiary education accessible in South Africa, the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply, the world’s largest procurement and supply professional organization, has decided to walk the talk by partnering with Rising Stars Careers Expo. This partnership will allow CIPS SA Trust to offer bursaries to deserving matriculants who wish to pursue a career in Procurement & Supply profession. According to Nat Maelane CIPS SA Trust Chairman, this bursary offering aims to attract more young people in the procurement & supply profession and bursary holders will have an opportunity to get a globally recognized professional qualification.

UNIVERSITY FEES IN SA

An average university degree fees is R30 000 per year and this may exclude accommodation & other expenses. Some employers offer financial assistance to their staff members to further their studies in order to retain workforce but matriculants and unemployed people don’t have this option. This is the reason organizations like CIPS SA Trust were formed. “The CIPS SA Trust aims to increase the number of procurement and supply professionals, therefore, we want to support a number of people on a journey of education, life skills and mentoring”, adds Nat. We also support those who are already in the profession but are finding it hard to progress due to financial constraints, by offering support with CIPS qualifications

WHO QUALIFIES FOR STUDENT FUNDING?

Nat mentions that they are looking for historically disadvantaged young passionate South African youth who are 18 & above, can speak English and have matric certificate. The CIPS SA Trust bursary is a self-study and will cover course books, examination fees, membership funding and E-Learning tutorial. “The Rising Stars Career Expo will take place between May 2016 to October 2016 & we have educational activities lined-up for each one of our exhibitions including keynote addresses by respected speakers, presentations, demonstrations and networking. Therefore, this year’s event in all three cities promises to be bigger & better”, says Thulisa Mangcotywa, RSCE Event Organiser
